Miniarcs are my modern architectural design sets staged and built to the scale of 1 inch equals 1 foot.
While I attended Smith College and was studying Architectural History as my college major, I pursued my love for architecture as a summer intern in the model building departments of two famous New York City architectural firms: Skidmore Owings & Merrill and Robert A.M. Stern Architects. I learned how to construct professional architectural models by using two different methods. At RAM, I built models entirely by hand, measuring and cutting and glueing layers of different thickness of plywood. At SOM, I assembled the CAD laser cut plastic pieces into finished models. Both apprenticeships taught me what I would need to know later when I started building Miniarcs while I was working in San Francisco.
